Mickley Parish BMX Track
The exciting vision of creating a spectacular BMX track in a former Derbyshire mining village has finally come true.
Shirland and Higham Parish Council has spearheaded a project that has brought together a number of funders to create a four acre BMX and scooter park in Mickley, which cost £150,000 to build. The project is the brainchild of the young people of Mickley who together with Rykneld Homes sought the help of the Parish Council to achieve their dream.
The Parish Council responded by funding the land purchase for the park and coordinated the financial contributions from The Viridor Group, Rykneld Homes, the Police and Crime Commissioner, Keepmoat and the young people of Mickley to ensure the BMX track build is of the highest standard. As worked near completion the Parish Council became encourage by the number of smaller children with their parents who were showing an interest in the facility but unfortunately could not play on the track due to its design.
At the request of the Parish Council the contractors modified the final park layout to include a small scooter and skate track for younger children, which was achieved within the Council’s original budget. The eight-acre park is large enough for additional sporting facilities to be added in the future.
